I highly recommend using an IRC client to connect, such as:
mIRC (Windows)
Trillian (Useful if you also use multiple IM clients)
Chatzilla (This is for Mozilla browsers)
Xchat (Linux/Windows)
Colloquy (Mac IRC)

This server supports SSL connections, which is a secure line with encryption.
Xchat supports it by default, just connect with:
Server: irc.zonexus.net
Port: +6697

Other programs, like Trillian and mIRC, need special files. An SSL pack and instructions for setting up secure connections in Trillian and mIRC can be downloaded here:
